When does the New Entrant Safety Audit happen?
Typically within the first 12 months after you get your new USDOT number and authority. FMCSA or a state partner sends a letter or email with a submission window or an on-site date. It is not optional and nearly every new entrant gets one.
I am a one-truck owner-operator and the only driver. Do I still need a driver qualification file?
Yes. If you drive a commercial motor vehicle for your own authority, you are a driver under 49 CFR Part 391 and you need a complete DQ file on yourself: application, MVRs, annual review, medical certificate, and previous employer inquiries.
